our little book worm
Alex loves books. And the funny thing is, he's had this obsession since before he was even born. OK well maybe it started out as my obsession... When I was pregnant with Alex I would tell anyone that asked what we wanted or needed just to get him a book. We certainly didn't need any more baby stuff and I thought it would be really fun to just have a huge collection of children's books. In the beginning he was of course more of a passive participant in our regular reading sessions but things sure have changed. For several months now it's not uncommon to find him sitting on the floor turning pages. Sometimes he flips through them in earnest as though searching for something while other times he seems to study each and every page so carefully. I love to just sit and watch him. As with most things we've definitely had our frustrating times...chewing pages, tearing at bindings, flipping pages back and forth with utter disregard to the story...but last week he did something that has made even the most frustrating story times all worth it. He brought me a book, climbed into my lap, and sat expectantly yet patiently as I read it to him. To me it's almost more of a sign of his transition from babydom to boyhood than walking. And granted we've now read said book at least 9 times a day every day since but how can I possibly say no?
